The GS mark indicates that the safety of the product has been tested by an independent authority with credibility. The GS mark, although not legally mandated, does enable the manufacturer to be bound by a strict German (European) product safety law in the event of a product failure in the event of an accident. So the GS mark is a powerful market tool, can enhance customer confidence and desire to buy. Although the GS is a German standard, but the vast majority of European countries agree. But also meet the GS certification at the same time, the product will meet the requirements of the European Community CE mark. And the CE is not the same, GS logo is not mandatory, but because of safety awareness has been in-depth ordinary consumers, a GS mark of the electrical market in general may have more competitive products.
GS mark for the German voluntary safety signs; but highly valued by consumers. Many products, including power tools, IT equipment and home appliances, will not be sold in Germany or the surrounding areas without the GS mark.
Product evaluation, certification and pre-license inspection
Product evaluations are based on harmonized European standards and refer to low voltage directives, EMC directives and mechanical directives. If the GS-compliant product does not have a relevant European standard, a certificate of the IEC standard will be issued and the certificate will be valid for five years.
A pre-license inspection is a requirement, followed by an annual factory inspection.
In addition to the European harmonization of electrical safety standards and the German National Deviations, ZEK's ZEK documentation and the GSE's Ek1 (Exchange of Experience Forum 1) documents are required for product evaluation. Some products also need to accept ergonomic testing.
According to ZEK 01-08, since April 1, 2008, the application of GS certified products must accept the PAHs assessment to comply with regulatory requirements, and to avoid harm to health.
